Which country is best represented in London

After visiting six countries houses from four different continents

 we feel we have travelled the world. 

We traveled to Switzerland, France, south Africa, brazil,

Qatar and finally Ireland. Each countries house had something

unique to offer which included their culture history and sport.

Our group concluded that the French house was the best sports

fan experience for the nation. However wefelt unwelcomed and

isolated as Brits and as journalists.



South Africa presented a great display of national art, music and culture.

The atmosphere was very quiet but the few people that were there were

very proud. South Africa failed to represent there sporting side of there

nation.



Brazil had the most spectacular Display of culture and strongest

sense of national Identity , as well as attendance. Many people

of a variety of ages indulging in what casa brazil had to offer.

We were then very pleasantly and unexpectedly surprised by Qatars

relaxed and luxurious experience. On arrival we were treated to free

drinks at the sports bar whilst watching live action from the Games.

Shahan a spokes person for the Qatar house very kindly gave us a

private tour educating us on Qatars sporting history and the

development of their sustainable infrastructure.

Some nations avoided the stereotypes however the typical Irish

lived up to theirs, by setting up base in a pub. The Irish came out

in full force to support their own.



We were welcomed by the Swiss stereotypes of chocolate, cheese

and an out door climbing wall. From an interview with a Swiss representative

, we found out that the Swiss were challenging the stereotype with out door

concerts, the gaming facilities as well as a late night club.

A Room For London

As a young blogger interested into the arts of music I was drawn into the events hosted by the London 2012 festival. Ruth Mackenzie explained to Claudia how the London 2012 festival was a great opportunity for young people to attend free events that they could connect too and enjoy. After researching the site I came to conclude that the room for London was the most suitable and local event that I could attend. The Room for London is a mysterious object above the Queen Elizabeth Hall in the shape of a boat. It is available to the public for renting to host events. As part of the London 2012 festival the room for London will host an event for 10 days of every month. Consisting of writers and musicians creating work inspired by the view of the Thames. The event is open to the public for free and is broadcasted live onto the web.

Lord Bates Interview

On Tuesday the First of May Headstart were invited along to the art exhibition at the Free Word Centre. Joe another SMJ from Headstart had artwork on display, he gave a brief discussion in front of 200 people of what he had experience whilst taking the photos. Other members of SMJ gave live blogs of the event whilst Joe and I went off interviewing people.

“Enjoy It & Encourage Other People”

On Sunday morning Joe and I set off to meet Amy. It was truly a very exciting and exhilarating experience to meet a Paralympic athlete at such a young age. Boxes and shelves are overflowing with medals and trophies. A remarkable sign off what Amy’s capable off and expected to achieve.

On the 16th of February members of Headstart visited the olympic site, for some of us it was our second time. It was great to see the progression since our last visit. All the venues and buildings seem to be built however there is still a lot off work to do with the greenery and out door spaces. Annoyingly some of the venues and seating areas are only temporary and it seems a real waste just to take them down again. Unfortunately I don’t have any tickets so I wont be able to walk around the park, I was looking forward into visiting the worlds largest Mcdonalds

The olympic tour should be amazing. It will be great to see the difference and progress that they’ve made since our last visit. The weather is looking good hopefully it holds, so should be able to have a clear view of the site. I will be bringing my camera and hopefully take the same shots and more as last year to have a real comparison.

Do you think that this new track will involve the local people and the people in the olympic boroughs?

“I quite like the track however I feel it’s quite sad how the people who have composed the music aren’t even from london, so it’s not really involving the community. The big brands and sponsors are shutting up the little people and I just feel that this is how the olympics are being portrayed so far and it’s not really fair on the local community”.

What are your opinions on Mark Ronsons new released track Move to the Beat?

“The track is pretty good, I like how it integrates the sounds of the athletes, it shows that they are capable of mixing music with sport. I like how it gets the athletes involved not only in the sport but in the music as well I think is a nice added feature”.

Hackney Weekend

Hackney Weekend will be taking place on the 23rd and 24th of June. There will be 100000 tickets available. The great thing about this event is that the majority of the tickets will be allocated to the people living in Hackney. This event is being held as part of the 2012 olympics. The ticket registration is open until march and will only be able to apply for two tickets which is quite near.

Moving Closer To The Beat

A sneak preview of whats to come of Mark Ronsons Move To The Beat. I like how they get the athletes involved in the live performance as it integrates the sport with the music. Coca Cola are releasing a TV commercial to promote the track, featuring Mark Ronson and Katy B. This TV commercial will demonstrate the fusion of music and sport and will be aired in the UK soon this year . Also a 60 minute documentary will be broadcasted that follows Mark Ronsons journey across 5 countries and 3 continents to meet with athletes to record the sounds of their sports. The marketing of the campaign is targeted at teenagers across the globe, it uses music to unlock the social side of the Olympic Games.

Move To The Beat

Mark Ronson and Katy B have created a new song for the London Olympics , this song is hoping to connect young people to the games. They are replacing the sounds of instruments with nautural sounds from the atheletes. For example heavy breathing of a runner or the hitting noise of a karate kick. Mark Ronson and Katy B have managed to fuse music and sport together. Just as sport brings people together so does music, this is a great opportunity to combine the two.

Trip To The Guardian

On Tuesday 22nd we went to visit the Guardian, Kings Place. This was a great experience for us because we got a tour around the building. This was great because it showed us journalism at its best. Going to the guardian has inspired to get into blogging again.
When visiting the guardian I learnt that when blogging you have to be unique and different to everyone else. You have to blog about something that inspires you and interests you other wise you will slowly lose interest.

My self and members of Headstart left extremely early sunday morning for the Olympic museum in Lausanne. I enjoyed learning about all the different sports that take part in the Olympics and how cautious all the Olympic athletes have to be when taking any type of drug. Even something simple like Nurofen can end an athletes dream, all those hard years of training gone to waste.

Is this another project to make London look appealing for the 2012 olympics. How much is the fare going to be? It’s public transport and they’ve already confirmed passengers can pay with their oyster cards.
